ALMANAC presented at Water Ideas 2014

The conference presents the latest developments, strategies, techniques and applications of international best practices in Innovative Water Networks Management. Roberto Gavazzi from Telecom Italia presented ALMANAC and the water supply application as part of a session on Smart Water Projects.

- The conference provided a valuable context for meetings between ICT companies and utilities. Utilities know they need to introduce ICT in their distribution networks to become “smart” and that the state of the art of ICT is quite advanced, however, more collaboration is needed between the two worlds who usually speak different languages: The ICT world has to become more aware of utility business, languages and needs and utilities have to become more aware of new ICT technologies and opportunities, Roberto Gavazzi explains.

During the Almanac presentation the focus was on capillary networks and ETSI M2M which both utilities and ICT representatives showed an interest in.

- Everybody knows the importance of having ICT standards and ETSI M2M can be a very good candidate even if not all utilities know it. The Almanac presentation was a very good “tool” for presenting new ICT technologies and standards to the utilities, Roberto Gavazzi says.
